Her Story
Mrs. Kathy Halamka is the co-founder of the Unity Farm Sanctuary in Sherborn. Before founding the sanctuary, she worked as an artist and began selling art when she was only 12 years old.
While attending Stanford University, she received a BA. At Tufts University, she received an MFA and a SMFA. With these degrees, she enjoyed working as both an entrepreneur, a professional artist, and a professor.
In 2016, she co-founded the sanctuary and has “fully embraced” her role ever since. She is a proud mother and wife. In three words, she would describe herself as “compassionate, tireless, and determined.”
Unity Farm Sanctuary
The Unity Farm Sanctuary is an organization devoted to providing a safe home for farm animals. The farm offers unique educational programs and promotes a culture of kindness and connection. At the Sanctuary, Mrs. Halamka directs the humane education program, runs the public tours, co-manages animal care, serves as a devoted activist for animals and the environment, runs the volunteer program, manages social media platforms, and co-manages the funding.
Favorite things about Sherborn
Mrs. Halamka feels that Sherborn’s preservation systems and reservations are what make it a wonderful town. She appreciates the farming land, orchards, and many horse farms across town.
The Sherborn community is special to her, and she finds residents to be exceptionally caring.
The Best Part of Her Job
In her opinion, the best part of the job is helping the public learn about humane education at the sanctuary. She loves inspiring young people to take an interest in environmental activism and feel passionate about animals. She notes that “the future of our planet and all the farmed animals need us to advocate for them."
Besides her wonderful education program, she loves how she is able to be creative and influence her art into her work every day.
