Mrs. Kelly Hodge

Mrs. Kelly Donohue Hodge
Mother, Friend, Aunt, Sister, and Wife
Musician, Artist, Actress, and Music Teacher

Her Story

Mrs. Kelly Donohue Hodge works at the Pine Hill Elementary School in Sherborn as the music teacher. Prior to becoming an educator, she worked as a professional singer and actor in and around New York City, an experience that she loved. For nearly ten years, she performed at theme parks, at dinner theaters, on cruise ships, and on many stages across the United States. After years of performing, she decided to switch to a career in education and soon found teaching to be an excellent fit. She is a proud mother of one Dover- Sherborn student. She is described as a “funny, energetic, and creative” woman.

Mrs. Hodge has several degrees: a BA in English Literature from the University of New Hampshire, and a Master's Degree in Music Education from Hunter College in New York.

Teaching Music

Mrs. Hodge began teaching music in 2003 and has enjoyed it ever since. On a typical day, she works with her students in kindergarten through the fifth grade, in her colorful classroom. She explains that “each grade level works on something different, so it’s a little like surfing channels on tv—one moment I’m dancing with second graders, the next period I’m drumming with fifth graders.” However, despite this busy and quite demanding schedule, she absolutely loves the job!

The Best Part of Her Job

Mrs. Hodge feels that the best part of teaching music is that it allows her to inspire her passion for music to young people. She also appreciates that she is able to interact with her coworkers so frequently. The relationships she has with her coworkers have allowed her to give and receive motivation from them, in order to develop her own teaching skills.

Favorite things about Sherborn

Mrs. Hodge describes Sherborn as “truly a special place to live.” She loves the vast nature across town including Sherborn’s extensive trail systems, Farm Pond, and the open fields. The town community is also special to her, as she finds Sherborn residents to be very “kind, highly educated and helpful” people. Most importantly, she has a special connection with Pine Hill School.

As a Mother to a former Pine Hill student, she has only wonderful things to say about Pine Hill. In fact, the main reason that she moved to Sherborn, after living in New York City, was so that she could give her son the best education. She recalls that her son “still speaks fondly of his time and teachers at Pine Hill.

Her Advice to Young People

For individuals interested in going into a teaching career, Mrs. Hodge recommends volunteering at a school to "shadow" a teacher.  She feels that education is an incredibly rewarding career and would advise that people think thoughtfully about their goals.
